Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial Osteopathy is a gentle yet extremely effective therapy that can be used in acutely painful or delicate conditions for people of all ages, from newborn babies to the elderly. It encourages the release of stresses and tensions throughout the body. It is used to treat a wide range of conditions.

Who Can Cranial Osteopathy Help?

It has become renowned for its treatment of infant colic and infant sleep problems, but it is also highly effective in the treatment of a broad spectrum of other childhood and adult conditions. These tend to fall into three categories:

Chronic or Developing Conditions Such As:

  • Face pain
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headaches
  • Jaw (TMJ)
  • Migraine
  • Sinus pain
  • Some types of arthritic or rheumatic pain

Victims of Recent Violent Injuries (Deliberate or Accidental):

  • Car accidents
  • Falls
  • Sports injuries
  • Whiplash

Stress Sufferers.

This includes people who are physically and/or emotionally exhausted and suffering a whole range of stress related conditions, these can include physical pain from muscles and joints due to maintaining a "stress posture" and digestive problems, as well as:

  • Anxiety symptoms
  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Mood swings and feeling "run-down" or overwhelmed

Cranial osteopathy also helps to increase energy levels, improve the ability to relax, and benefits general health and well-being. It is also a fantastic way of helping women deal with the physical and emotional challenges of pregnancy.

How Does Cranial Osteopathy Work?

A combination of physical and emotional trauma can shock parts of the body. If it is unable to dissipate the shock, the tissues contract as if they were trying to wrap around the problem. Such contractions which have been "stored" in the body will restrict normal motion, and will compromise function. This will lead the osteopath to the problem areas in the body.

Most people are surprised at the gentle contacts and lightness of touch during the treatment. It is easy to fall asleep but if you can stay awake, you will get more benefit from the treatment because you will start to recognise how it feels to be relaxed.
